All Daniel ever had was his family. No good with friends, no interest in partnership. He was never worried about loniness, he thought he'd always have his family. But then his sister left. Then his brother. Then his mother. For a while, he managed alone with hsi father, he'd always been closest to him, anyway. But after a short weekend away, he found his father dead in their house. With nothing left, he stopped caring what would happen to him, what did he have to live for? Years, he spent in a drunken haze. Until one day, he wakes up fully sober in a world that's different than what he remembers.

“What’s that scar on your cheekbone from?” Hyde asked Daniel.
Daniel snickered a little, like he was waiting for someone to ask. “When we were kids, Barry and I were playing with sticks one day, we were playing catch with one for some reason.”
“Didn’t you have a ball or something? Or just, toys?”
“We did, but sticks were still fun, too. One moment, I got distracted, and Barry threw it at me anyway. Then it hit me in the face and cut my cheek.”
Hyde’s eyes widened in horror. “Oh, god. You’re lucky you didn’t lose your eye.”
“I know.” He looked at Barry with a grin. “Barry.”
Barry turned his head. “Huh?”
“How does it feel to have physically scarred your brother forever?”
Barry groaned and turned away in annoyance. “Already? You still haven’t let that go? I was eight!”
“I’ll let it go when this scar leaves my face!”
