Short Excerpt
Enjoy Barry being a golden retriever, from book 2, chapter 6:
Thomas sat in his usual spot on his reading chair. Barry stood behind the chair and leaned his arms on the back. Thomas looked up at him.
“Can we go somewhere today?”
“Where?”
“Nowhere in particular, just explore the city together or something, like we did before.”
Thomas glanced away and hummed. “I’m not really in the mood.”
Barry frowned. “Why not?”
“Yesterday was busy with everyone here, I’d like a quiet day indoors.”
“Okay.” Barry kneeled down next to the chair and leaned on the armrest instead. “Then, can we do something indoors?”
Thomas chuckled. “Do you need someone to entertain you?”
“Like I’m a toddler?”
“Why not Fallon?”
“I want to spend time with you.” He rested his chin on the armrest. “We haven’t had some quality time alone in a while.”
“A week?”
“When you’re not grumpy from the pain.”
Thomas smiled. “What do you have in mind?”
Before Barry could answer, Thomas put his hand on the side of his head and rubbed his fingers through his hair and over his beard. Barry leaned into his hand, his eyes fell shut and he barely stopped himself from purring.
This. This was what he wanted. Sweet, casual affection. It’s what he’d missed all those years.
“This is good,” Barry whispered.
