Why I picked it up: This was one of the three books that I bought when I got into readin again when I went to a bookstore with my friend. She really liked Six of Crows and recommended it to me, but i wanted to start at the beginning with this one.

Overall opinion: I’m not sure how I feel about it, to be honest. The middle really dragged on, with the time spent at the little palace. I get that it was necessary for the story, but my god, did it get repetitive and boring. Only when Alina left did I get kinda invested again.
The ending felt very sudden. There were like 50 pages left and suddenly shit started going down and I just thought: “how the fuck is there gonna be enough time to wrap this up?” But honestly, I’m not disappointed in the ending.
